Abstract
Background: Insufficient milk supply affects millions of lactating women globally. Herbal galactagogues, plants enhancing milk production, offer natural alternatives.
Objective: This review examines traditional herbal galactagogues, their phytochemistry, pharmacological effects and clinical applications.
Methods: A comprehensive literature review analysed ethnobotanical, pharmacological, and clinical studies.
Results: Fenugreek, Fennel, Shatavari, and Goat's Rue demonstrated significant galactagogic properties. Phytoestrogens, saponins and flavonoids stimulated prolactin release.
Conclusion: Herbal galactagogues provide effective, safe alternatives for lactating women. Further research ensures evidence-based recommendations.
