Non-Pharmacological Management Of Post Menopausal Symptoms - A Case Report

Background:
Menopause can be defined as cessation of ovarian function which marks transition
from reproductive to non-reproductive phase in a women’s life. During this stage women
suffer from various symptoms which is classified as somato-vegetative, psychological and
genitourinary .Menopausal rating scale is a designed and standardised self-administered
assessment scale to assess the menopausal symptoms and severity as per the scoring.
Case Presentation:
A 48 year old female patient came to hospital complaining about various somato-
vegetaive ,psychological and genitourinary symptoms. On data collection she revealed that
she had 14 consecutive months of amenorrhea to which the symptoms were assessed as
postmenopausal symptoms. The patient and family members including husband and son was
provided with a counselling session and the patient was asked to make changes in lifestyle
including diet and exercise practice. There was a significant reduction in MRS Scoring
between baseline data collection and 6 th month follow up.
Conclusion:
The case highlights the effective non pharmacological management of post
menopausal symptoms by Clinical pharmacy services.
