Abstract

Even though smartphones were a huge hit when they first came out and are now used by everyone, adults who use them excessively are experiencing negative health effects and behaviors, such as poor sleep, which is directly related to screen time, particularly right before bed. The purpose of this study was to quantify smartphone screen time and related behaviors. An online Google form was utilized to gather data from N=232. Descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis using percentages were employed to analyse the data, and the preliminary findings were reported using a chi-square test. The study's findings demonstrated that social media, gaming, streaming, and YouTube accounted for a greater portion of smartphone use than learning. Increased smartphone screen time indicates that screen time is associated with health risks, such as using a phone shortly before bed, during meals, or while sleeping.
